Pineal gland and melatonin hormone

Pineal gland is pine-cone shaped gland so it's name is pineal. It is small pea shaped gland in the brain located on the roof of diencephalon or third ventricle behind anterior choroid plexus.

Th pineal gland was once know as the "third eye" it's function isn't fully understood. The primary function of pineal gland is to produce melatonin(amine hormone).
It secreted only during night when no light fallen on retina.
Melatonin has various function in the central nervous system the most important
Of which is to help modulate sleep pattern.
Melatonin production is stimulate by darkness and inhabited by light.
